I aimed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and explore the multi-layered connections between an individual and their hometown. As an international student who moved to the United States to pursue my undergraduate degree, I was unable to return to my hometown for over three years, from 2020 to 2023. This experience deepened my reflection on the relationship between my work and my cultural background. Many of my previous design projects explored themes rooted in Chinese culture, literature, and traditions. For this project, I sought to use illustration to playfully capture the essence of childhood, while depicting my personal reflections, conversations, and interactions with my hometown, Beijing, and its people.
