My visual project concept is an interactive poster of my favorite band, Deftones. Deftones is an alternative rock/metal band operating since 1988. They’re well-known though their distinct style and the mixture of screams and softness of the vocalist, Chino Moreno.
Although they have many hard-rock, loud songs, they also have quite a few lyrically-beautiful and sensual songs. I chose to incorporate the two sides of the band in poster through color. I have recently bought tickets to see them this upcoming March, which inspired me to use that concept as inspiration for my project. The visual starts with an interactive black and white poster of the band’s upcoming North American tour, specifically its Atlanta date. The user can play around with the “deftones” title, watching each letter scatter when clicked. There is also a constant almost snowfall effect with white dots in the background, creating an interesting visual and peaceful effect.
If the user claps, the poster will change to a video of a Deftones promotional video with a popular metal song of theirs behind it. If the user claps again, it takes them to a slightly edited version of the initial poster. Now, the color red has been incorporated to show the duality of Deftones; red as in power, strength, etc. The snowfall has turned bloody, mimicking the emotions of the song. The record also changes to side 2: side 1 showcases a black and white album image spinning on the record on the initial slide whereas slide 2 showcases a red and black album image spinning. The clap effect creates a feeling of turning the record to the other side. One side is soft, melancholic, while the other is loud and angry.
