Interactive Narrative Poem

Have you ever waited for someone you love? This interactive fictional poem amplifies the profound emotions of longing and heartache, as originally captured by the Korean poet Hwang Ji Woo. As players explore and click through the lines, they will experience evocative sounds, text effects, and interactive choices that lead to different endings—each revealing the pain and beauty of waiting.

The (b) ending remains faithful to the poet’s original work, while the (a) ending is reimagined by me, offering a different perspective on the experience of waiting and the complex nature of longing.

While I Wait for You

Written by Hwang Ji-woo

While I wait for you

Here, where you have are to come,

where I arrived ahead of you,

Every step drawing near

Is pounding in my heart,

Every single rustling leaf is coming to me.

Anyone who has waited knows—

What in the world can be as heartbreaking as waiting?

Here, where you are to come, where I arrived ahead of you,

Everybody who opens the door

Was you

Was you, might be you,

And then the door shuts.

O my beloved,

While I wait for you—now I am finally going to you

You, who would not come.

From very far I am going to you

And for a long time you are coming to me.

While I wait for you, I am going

To you, who from very far have ever so slowly been coming still.

Through the door by which others come in,

Following every step pounding in my heart,

I am going to you—while I wait for you.
